Research Enablement

Research Enablement, housed within the Office of the CIO, is a key strategic partner with the broader campus technology community to harness its diverse expertise and collective strengths in support of and empowering researchers by facilitating cost-effective, people-centered technology services and collaborations to realize their Boldly Illinois ambitions. Our core offerings include the following:

  • Cloud Enablement: Guidance on and access to cloud platforms (Amazon Web Services, Azure, Google Cloud) through workshops, office hours and database consulting.
  • Research Collaboration with Partners: Statistical consulting, survey support and data-centric trainings like Software and Data Carpentries workshops.
  • Faculty Working with Faculty: Faculty liaisons provide specialized support to fellow researchers, particularly in navigating sensitive data requirements and addressing unique training needs. This peer-to-peer model ensures that research faculty receive guidance from those who understand the academic landscape.
  • Engagement Efforts: Foster an active research support community through the Research IT Portal and workshops like CyberAmbassadors.
  • Regulated Research: Tools such as REDCap and Globus for data collection and transfer, and pilot environments such as Azure GCC High and AWS GovCloud for data analysis.

We work to ensure researchers can get access to essential tools and expertise while fostering collaborations across the campus and beyond, maintaining a strong focus on enabling research excellence.
